Diane Sawyer discovers a new Oxymoron, "Homeland Security"

Oxymorons are two words that contradict each other. The most famous oxymoron is the often cited humorous term, “military intelligence”. In this day and age when the greatest threat to American citizens come from radical Islamic terrorists, the events that occurred on September 11, 2001 helped to create the Dept. of Homeland Security that is charged with keeping tabs on terrorist activities. Now after an interview broadcast yesterday on ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer in which she interviewed Jim Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, it appears that some new oxymorons, "Homeland Security" and "Counter Intelligence", have been added to our language and that credit must be given to Diane Sawyer.

Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper was being interviewed alongside the White House counter terrorism adviser John Brennan and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Diane Sawyer asked Clapper directly about the arrest in Great Britain that day of 12 Muslim terrorists, during the course of a discussion about what the United States is doing to prevent another attempted terror attack.

The interview exchange went like this as reported by Fox News:
Diane Sawyer, asked Clapper, "First of all, London. How serious is it? Any implication that it was coming here?" Sawyer asked.

Clapper was silent for several seconds, then quietly turned his head and said, "London?"

Brennan stepped in to explain that the British had informed U.S. officials about the plot that morning.

"Oh," Clapper said.

Napolitano said that as far as she knew the arrests are unrelated to any threats against the U.S.

Later in the segment, Sawyer told Clapper she was "a little surprised" he didn't know about the London plot.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't," Clapper said.
UPDATED 12:30 AM 12-23-2010. Just found a YouTube video of the Diane Sawyer interview and had to add it to this post. You have got to see the blank expression of John Clapper's face while he ponders the difficult question he has just been asked. The transcript of the interview doesn't do it justice.
Now of course, we know the government has tried very hard to create something of a reverse oxymoron. That means that two words like "Islamic Terrorism" which are normally put together to describe who is behind a terrorist act have nothing to do with each other so government officials refuse to acknowledge that Islam has any connection with terrorism and they will not say them. In spite of the fact that almost every single successful act or failed plot of terrorism in America in the last 20 years has been committed by Muslims. The only one exception being Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City in 1995.

Yeah, we’re sorry, too. We’re sorry that our once great nation is being lead by and defended by such uninformed politically correct dolts who couldn’t spot a terrorist at an airport unless they tripped over his camel in the parking lot.
