Update on Pink Slips sent to Congress - now more than 7 million

If you ever wondered about the power of the press to affect public opinion here is a perfect example. Four days ago a group promoting a campaign to Take Back America announced in Washington, D.C. their mailing program to deliver Pink Slips to every member of the Senate and House of Representatives to warn them that they work for the American taxpayer had successfully delivered 5-million Pink Slips. That total breaks down to a stack of Pink Slips over 5-feet tall for every lawmaker. The press conference was held on the steps of the Capitol building and was covered by several news media stations.

After the word got into the newspapers and on TV, the public interest in this campaign has resulted in an additional 2-million Pink Slips being ordered for delivery in just three days. That means there have been over 7-million Pink Slips either delivered or on their way.

The mainstream news media had largely ignored this campaign during the first 5 weeks since it began and only word of mouth and a few conservative blogs managed to get the news out. But in three days after the story became public the campaign exploded.

5-million Pink Slips delivered to Congress

A press conference held outside the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. yesterday announced that the campaign to Take Back America has delivered over 5-million Pink Slips to Congress. Every Senator and Congressman has received a stack of these Pink Slips over 5 feet tall warning them that their votes for high-cost spending bills will result in their getting "fired" by the taxpayers who employ them.

The Pink Slip campaign was organized by Joseph Farah, CEO and editor of WorldNet Daily News and any citizen can order a set of Pink Slips to be delivered to every member of Congress for $29.95. Click this link to place your order: http://superstore.wnd.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=3251

Janet Porter, founder and president of Faith2Action and one of the organizers behind the "pink slips" campaign, was at a news conference today in Washington where U.S. Reps. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn.; Louie Gohmert, R-Texas; Steve King, R-Iowa; and Trent Franks, R-Ariz., hailed the effort as an innovative new vehicle for the American people to express themselves to members of Congress.

"It's an amazing feat, to get that many slips to Congress," Rep. King told WND. "If you look through them, you can index each one back to an individual.

"That's powerful. There is a person behind each one of the slips," he said.

Organizers of 'pink slip' protest claim 5 million sent to Congress

Washington (CNN) -- Voters disappointed over health care and other legislative efforts have now sent 5 million "pink slips" to members of Congress, the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily said Tuesday.

Several Republican lawmakers joined WorldNetDaily figures to endorse the campaign Tuesday on Capitol Hill.

"These pink slips are a call for fiscally responsible and constitutionally responsible Americans," said Rep. Steve King of Iowa.

A pink slip is symbolic of job dismissal, a theme not lost on Rep. Trent Franks, R-Arizona, who said members need to vote the will of the people or be fired in the next election.
